A day in the garden..

Here it is!!! Our Vege Garden :)

After a lot of hard work with the wheelbarrow we planted the plants and seeds today :)

Left to right:

On the lower outside of the straw bales (next to the tree stump) we've planted pumpkin seeds - theory being they will spread downhill as much as they like without taking over the other veges.

First bed has - peas (seeds) and seedlings of cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, bok choy and gai larn (chinese brocoli), and a mix of lettuces..

Second bed has - Seeds of Sweet Corn & Zucchini and seedling Silverbeet (rainbow variety in greens, reds & yellows..)

Third bed contains - Tomatoes (Apollo & Grosse Lisse & Cherry), Dutch Carrots, Brown Onions, and we've left a space to plant the Capsicum & Hot Peppers which we've started in the seed trays..

The bed on the top outside of the straw bales contains Pontiac Potatoes..

Here are some happy snaps from today :)

The boy, he'd just watered in our new Moorepark Apricot tree..

The dogs talking to the neighbours - so cute miniature ponies.

The view from the garden - love it.

A vege garden

These guys are sitting on the borders to our new garden :)

We are using straw bales as edging so that they can break down while they keep things in place. We're using a corner of our top paddock as it has good direct sun for most of the day.

On Tuesday of this week the boy and I barrowed 6 bales of Lucerne hay and 4 sacks of manure up there to lay the basis for the beds. (The ponies over the back fence were pleased with his one for the garden one for the ponies method of distributing handfuls of hay!)

Today we (I!) barrowed up 12+ barrows of soil/compost mix to top the hay/manure with.

Tonight I am sore and tired but we've made a great start (and hubby is home this weekend so he can pitch in with the rest), tomorrow we're heading into town to get some seedlings - yeah!

(oh, and speaking of gardens - our strawberry plants are starting to flower/fruit!)

Meet Buddy

Buddy is the newest addition to our clan.

"He" is actually a she but the boy insists 'buddy the budgie' is a boy.

She is a very chatty thing, spends a great part of the day chirping and calling to the wild parrots (who answer) and even the kookaburras!

I always had budgies growing up and they are great pets, this one is a little old to tame (sadly) but she's still lovely.

A stock bridle..

I don't know precisely why I made this, it just seemed like a fun idea :)

The buckles & bit came from an op shop bridle and I knitted the rest myself :)

I really like the colour, and the cotton was quite nice to work with. It is Lion Brand Worsted which is a US brand that has recently been released here..

Overseas cottons are a lot more versatile than that you can get here, sadly.

More on the weather!

It snowed here last weekend, but not enough to settle..

Mt St Leonard a few minutes away was a different story though.. wow!

We all had a great time making snow balls and throwing them, building a snow man.

The boy was stoked, laughing and running about excitedly. :)

For comparison's sake

Here is the same view as the fog shot :)
This was taken on a COLD day, I love the contrast between the sky and the grass..

Misty Morn...

We've had a few coolish mornings, and some freezing ones, too!

This one was very foggy.. and very quiet. I love fog, it's so peaceful :)

The boy was quite taken with the 'froggy' weather.
